Mr. Paul Vaughn began KESM AM in the mid 1950’s. KESM has been in operation at the same location since it’s inception. KESM AM went on the air at 250 watts. It was later updated to 500 watts by Mr. Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn had the forsight to see how valuable an FM license would be. He applied for and received the FM license in 1962.
KESM was sold to Daryl Fredine, then Marvin Bredemeyer, and then William Martin. Don and Sue Kohn purchased KESM AM and FM in 1985. Within the first two weeks of ownership, the Kohn’s added stereo. They also increased the FM from 4500 to 6000 watts.
KESM is currently has a 100% digital stereo sound. KESM is proud to be “The Voice of the Bulldogs” and “Your Daily News Source.”
